Many Christians wonder if they are in God’s will. How do you know for sure?

God has given us His word to lead us and guide us.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 NAS

If what you are doing contradicts the word of God then it is not God’s will for your life. God never contradicts His word. This is one on the reasons that it is so important to read and know the word of God. If God’s word is in your heart the Holy Spirit can bring it up in the appropriate time. When you read the Word at times the Holy Spirit will illuminate a scripture that pertains to your life. He is trying to speak to you. Are you paying attention? God has given us the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us.

“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. John 16:13 NAS

He encourages us to ask for wisdom and guidance.

If you need wisdom–if you want to know what God wants you to do–ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking. James 1:5 NLT

If you do not know which way to go, look for His peace. Gods peace is like an umpire.

And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always]. Col 3:15 AMP

Many times God gives peace or uneasiness in your Spirit to lead you. Be sensitive to His leading. If you sense uneasiness, pay attention God may be warning you. Sometimes God speaks to us through our circumstances. He can open and close doors.

Pray about everything and seek His will. Proverb 3:5,6 says to acknowledge Him in all of your ways and He will make your path straight.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5,6 NLT
Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed. Proverb 16:3 AMP
I will cry to God Most High, Who performs on my behalf and rewards me [Who brings to pass His purposes for me and surely completes them]! Psalm 57:2 AMP

Be obedient to what God has already shown you. When you walk in obedience to God you are walking in His will. As you walk in His will you will walk right into His plans for your life.

Learn to recognize God’s voice.

If you are in doubt, wait until God reveals His will. Then ask God to confirm it for you. If in doubt seek counsel from a mature Christian. God wants the best for your life.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
