Journaling Tips & Tools

Your journal can be a place of safety, of healing, of emotional and spiritual growth and a place of gaining insight about your life.

  • Try to write something each day until you are comfortable journaling. The more you write, the easier it will become.
  • Don’t think too hard about what you’re going to write.
  • Try not to edit your work. Just pour out your heart through ink.

(This is not “automatic writing” but rather unloading your heart to God in written prayer form and listening for His voice).

There is no right or wrong way to journal.

It’s okay to make mistakes in spelling and in punctuation. Scribbling, doodling, crossing things out and even drawing pictures are acceptable. This is your journal where you can be yourself. Allow God to minister to your heart. Don’t be concerned right now if you do not hear Him speaking. In time this will come.

As you journal, watch to see if God is trying to speak to you. If you observe a pattern in your journaling, God may be trying to get your attention.
