God Healed My Body It’s amazing what happens to us when we make
it through hard times. You know we really don’t qualify for a
miracle until we end up with a problem that nobody can solve … a
disease that no one can cure. You may be thinking, “Well, I
qualify!” I believe if we live long enough we’ll all come to the
point and time when we’ll qualify! Each one of us will
inevitably come to a time in our lives when we or someone we
hold dear will need a miracle from God … a special, supernatural
touch directly from the hand of God. Such was the case for me. I found myself diagnosed with two debilitating diseases back-to-back – Meniere’s and Graves Disease (autoimmune), just a few years ago. I learned some valuable lessons on my journey with Meniere’s, which I am grateful to share with you. That disease put me flat on my back. Without going into detail, I’ll give you a picture of what Meniere’s is by explaining the symptoms associated with it. Each Meniere’s attack left me totally incapacitated - sometimes up to 45 minutes. Attacks included uncontrollable vertigo, followed by violent nausea. And, with each episode I’d experience hearing loss due to reoccurring rupture of the inner ear. In my particular case it was confirmed by an audiologist that I’d actually lost over 60% of the hearing in my left ear within just a few months time. I was placed on three different prescription drugs and given warning that my driver’s license may be in jeopardy. As a mother of three, wife, employee and ministry leader, my once active life came to an abrupt halt! When I was hit with these two diseases, going to the Word of God and prayer became my hiding place, especially after doctors (locally and at Mayo Clinic) told me I could expect the symptoms to get worse, and I’d experience increased loss of hearing in both ears. Matthew 11:12 says, “the Kingdom of God has suffered violence up until this very time but the violent take it by force. KJV” When I studied the words violence and violent in the Greek, they meant two different things. “The kingdom of God suffers violence”, means attack and the “violent take it by force”, means the energetic. This energized me toward being more determined than ever in my prayers. Eph 6:12 says, “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” I want to especially turn your attention here to the word “wrestle” in this verse, which the Greek depicts as an intense, violent struggle, fierce combat and ongoing conflict. According to this verse, the enemy is serious in his attempts to destroy. I was beginning to realize my need to get serious in my attempts to combat! Let’s face it, the devil is out “seeking for whom he can destroy,” just as the Bible says. He has a plan for destruction, for a person’s early death and disease. But the good news is you and I have powerful weapons at our disposal such as the Word of God and prayer! These weapons can effectually thwart evil plans when, and if, we decide to get serious enough to use them! The Meniere’s attacks would come with little
to no warning signs, and they reached peak intensity within just
minutes. When I dared to venture out, I had some pretty
embarrassing moments! The following instance I share with you
only because of the major turning point it produced. After two months into this thing, my husband
and I were scheduled to go on a 20th anniversary
cruise, something we’d planned for over two years. But now, the
thought of living on a ship for nine days with the symptoms I
had left me with trepidation, but I didn’t want to disappoint my
husband. After all, it was our anniversary, and how often does
one get to go on a cruise?!? With me, it had been never!
So, to make a long story short, we did end up going. The first couple of days I was doing okay with just one bad episode, so we decided to go on an island excursion in which my husband could go scuba diving. I was looking forward to just reading and relaxing on the beach. He left for the deep and I was on my lawn chair surrounded by several other vacationers when the symptoms chose to hit. I knew before it reached peak intensity I’d better get to some shade or I’d sweat profusely, and I really didn’t want to put my nausea on display.
I arose to walk but my balance was off. It was way off! I was sure as I strolled along that my onlookers thought I was intoxicated. And with this thought, I began to giggle. A means of handling a stressful situation, I guess! When I finally reached the shade of a palm tree away from the crowd, this is when my symptoms hit me and they hit me hard. When this happened, I went from giggles to sobs. But you know it was in that brokenness where God met me in a very powerful way. His presence spoke to me very clearly as Words of Life began to wash over me so assuredly. In that moment I heard Him say to my spirit, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. I do not give this spirit of fear but I give a spirit of power, peace and a sound mind. I’ve come that you may have life and have it more abundant!” The peace was so great that I just lay there agreeing with God that, “Yes, You do give life … life abundant. And, yes, this fear is not of You. This illness is not of You. Satan is the liar, who comes to kill, steal and destroy.” Since the onslaught of this thing, I had been feeling nothing but a defeated fear and dread. “Enough is enough,” I thought! I was downright mad! Angry at the situation I headed back to my chair. Do you think I may have shocked a few people there on the beach with my record time sober state?!? Now something really rose up inside me – I was ready like never before to fight back! I was ready to increase the warfare. It’s good to remind ourselves how Jesus modeled warfare. In looking to Matthew 4:1 it says, “Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” I found it important to note that first, He
went out into the wilderness “filled with the Holy Spirit.” (For
more information on how you can be filled with the Holy Spirit

How to Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.) Jesus then took a position of authority over the enemy and exercised that authority on the basis of the revealed Word of God. Three times Jesus responded to the enemy with, “IT IS WRITTEN,” and three times the devil had to leave the subject alone. The third time he left completely. He just gave up! I learned as never before in my walk that this type authority over the enemy is powerful because it is the authority of the Word of God. God first places that Word in my heart and then on my lips. That is important to understand. Jesus simply came back at Satan with the Word of God. Jesus is our ultimate role model. He wants us to do the same! By confessing God’s Word, you allow the Word
to do its marvelous work! It’s the way we become strong in any
given situation. With this realization and determination, I began to diligently search my Bible for answers. In my search I came upon Proverbs 4:20-22. These Scriptures proved to be another major turning point for me. Please take time to read them carefully. “Pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight but keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.” (NIV) The Word of God is health and healing to our spirit, our soul and even our physical bodies! Did you know the Hebrew word for “health” in this verse is medicine? I made the decision that day to take in His Word just like medicine. I firmly decided to take it three times a day, just like the prescription medication I’d been instructed to take. I knew according to Hebrews 4:12 that His word is like a seed, “alive and full of power ~ making it operative, energizing and effective” (AMP). God’s Word actually carries within it the power to fulfill itself! Based on Scriptures like this one, I wanted to take His Word for nothing less than what it said. This determination put me on a search for any and all Scriptures that had to do with health and healing. When we got back from our vacation I typed them and put them in my car, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom mirror, at the office, wherever I went they were before me! Life giving words such as … “Jesus Himself took my infirmities and bore my sickness … by His wounds I was healed” (Isaiah 53:4,5). There are so many more! In the beginning I actually typed up pages of Scriptures related just to healing! There’s a vast, rich storehouse of unending promises for you and I to personally take and powerfully apply to any circumstance we may face – it does not matter the obstacle …whether it be sickness, disease, relational problems, a prodigal or finances … HIS WORD IS THERE, READY TO BRING LIFE and HEALTH! As I took in these Scriptures, it was as if they rose up from the pages of my Bible straight to my heart. I became consciously aware that God had given His Word to me, personally. I knew I had to stand on it like I’d not in the past. That word from God became so sharp that it seemed to cut right through my questions, my intellect, and natural logic and lodged deep within my heart. Just like Hebrews 4:12 states, “The Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (NKJ) I must confess that the most trying time for me in the course of this journey was when the symptoms would rear up when I’d be standing on God’s promises. It seemed I would hear, “See, God’s Word doesn’t work. You’ll never be well – give up.” Do you know that most attacks waged against us begin in our minds? The devil knows that your mind is the central control center for your life; therefore, if he can take control of one small area of your mind, he can begin to expand outward into other weak areas that need to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. By poisoning your mind with unbelief and lying strongholds, the devil can then manipulate not only your mind, but next your emotions and then your tongue; with negative confessions, attitudes and defeat written all over them. How vital it is for us to take our thoughts captive to the Word of God, just as 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (NIV) Hebrews 10:36 says, “We inherit the promises of God through faith and patience.” Faith and patience are few big words to ponder. I came to understand faith and patience in a way I could have never understood otherwise, as I continued to wait on God and remain fixed on His Word and prayer. In Romans 4:17, it says, “God gives life…(He) calls things that are not as though they were.” God gave me a clear revelation here as well -- If what you see or feel contradicts with the Word, only believe the Word of God. What you see and feel are not always real, but may be simple manifestations to cause fear, doubt and unbelief. God was telling me that even though I wasn’t yet seeing with my physical eyes what I believed God could do in the spiritual; I knew God was in the process of working it out based on what His Word said. Scriptures like this gave me a tremendous amount of strength and hope. I
personalized verses 20 and 21 of this very important portion of
Scripture in Romans 4 to declare,
“I stagger not at the
promises of God through unbelief, but I am growing strong in
faith, being fully persuaded that God has power to do what he
has promised.”
Are you fully persuaded that God has the power to do what He has promised in His Word? Are you reading your Bible to find out what those promises are towards you and your situation? You can go boldly and exercise your God-given authority over every area of your life. I encourage you to allow God’s Word to become more real to you than what you see or feel. Keep on until, like Abraham, you “stagger not at the promises of God through unbelief” (Romans 4:20). We serve a GREAT GOD! - Our Bibles say that He’s a God “that never changes” (James 1:17). I am here to give testimony of His unending wonders – testimony that after steadily leaning and applying these principles from God’s Word over a period of several months and taking measures to treat my temple in a healthy manner (a whole other lengthy lesson I could write an entire book on!), I received my healing. Today every symptom is gone, every blood test is normal --- even the 60% hearing loss is completely and totally restored! God has done an amazing thing. He is a good God, a powerful God - so merciful and loving. Our Bibles say, “He is the same yesterday, today and forever”!!!!! (Hebrews 13:8) I want you to understand; “God is no
respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). What He has done
throughout the ages, He is ready to do for you dear one. You know, while we would prefer to never experience trials or tribulation, that’s pretty unlikely. But, each time we’re delivered out of the midst of one, that’s a demonstration of the keeping power of God, a testimony of His enduring love and faithfulness. It is the Word of God and my utterly, desperate dependence upon that Word that brought about the biggest change in my life. This transformation began first with a test and then a whole lot of determined leaning on God through a process of time. Tests. Waiting… they’re pretty much inevitable, aren’t they? But how many of us would have a testimony without first having a “test?” It was in that testing that God revealed Himself to me in a way I would not have understood otherwise. Once I went through it, it was as if scales fell off my eyes, and I could see the truth for the first time. In my case, I absorbed these truths like a sponge, and now that I’ve got it inside of me, no one can take it away! When God’s revelations become a living part of us, they change us completely. Changed! Renée I’ve put together Health and Healing Scriptures set to prayer for you or your loved ones. Just as a prescription medication takes a process of time to work its way into your system, at times divine healing is like that. When you take in the Word of God it begins to do its marvelous work, just like medicine! It’s better than the best “miracle drug” on the market! An Important Note: I want to point out that this testimony is neither a “name it, claim it” theology, nor is it some formula that I speak of. Instead, it is personal testimony of how I learned not to underestimate the God of the universe and His wonder-working power in the life of those who chose to believe what He says in the Bible. * * * * * Feedback is welcomed.
