I Love Gardening … the Heart
Did you know that the Bible depicts the heart as God’s Garden and teaches us to join Him as Gardeners of the Heart. Whether or not you are an earthly gardener — you can become a Gardener of the Heart.
Apostle Paul was a Gardener of the Heart. He said,
My work was to plant the seed in your hearts … but it was God …Who made the garden grow in your hearts. 1 Corinthians 3:6 TLB We are gardeners and field workers laboring with God. You are the vineyard, the garden, the house where God dwells. 1 Corinthians 3:9 VOICEMaybe you’ve never thought of God as a gardener before, but look closely in scripture and you find Him planting, watering and reaping in the hearts of His people.
We are God’s garden … the garden of His delight. 1 Cor. 3:9 (AMP), Isaiah 5:7
From the beginning of time, gardening was in the heart of the Father. Garden terminology is threaded throughout scripture, in both the Old and New Testaments.
Your heart (God’s garden) is just waiting to flourish, so let’s join Him in cultivating it! If at anytime you don’t like the view, uproot weeds of sin and plant new seeds. You can cultivate your heart so that it will be receptive to the seed of God’s word.
In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life. James 1;21 MSG
The Holy Spirit will till the soil of the heart making it easier to hear God’s voice and to receive the truth of His word. He will soften areas of hardness, and break down barriers of resistance and unbelief. Over time He may even reveal hidden obstructions such as unforgiveness or painful memories that have been stuffed for years.
When dealing with your own heart, you must be the one to respond to the voice of the Holy Spirit. However, when aiming for someone else’s heart, they must be the one to respond to His voice, but your prayers will open the door for the Holy Spirit to cultivate and soften their heart. As you continue to pray, the Holy Spirit convicts of sinful behavior and attitudes, and the weeds of sin and the flesh lose its grip so their heart will be receptive to His voice and to the seed of God’s word.
But don’t try to do this on your own. You cannot cultivate your heart or the heart of another apart from an intimate relationship with the Master Gardener, the One Who knows the hearts of all men.
So let’s get started … harvest is coming! You can count on it — if you sow — you WILL reap a harvest!
